2008/09 Player of the season countdown

His second season ever. Not just for Banter and when you see he has 28 appearances in total that means games of football anywhere, for anyone. More games this season, better performances overall and much improvement. No question about that. It's probably easy to expect an improvement from someone who's barely played before, but had it not been for his training attendance during both pre-season and the season proper, it could be argued that the signs of improvement would not have been so large.

I can’t see many believing that he’d slot so easily into the wing-back role the way in which he did, but slot right in he most certainly did. A fantastic run of games in October and November saw him make the spot his own, when after 20 minutes of the Santos away game he came on to replace an injured Shannon. He worked up and down, playing passes with precision, tackled well and tracked back excellently and even played his part in Banter’s equaliser before the 5-1 victory began. In the 4-4 draw with Coulsdon Rangers on the Purley Way, he also played an important part down the left and again had a hand in one of Wommy’s goals in the second half.

His natural tendency to defend is the perfect foil for Bushman to stroll forward knowing that Dave is on the cover. He even managed to have a couple of shots this year, coming so close to opening his account against Oakfield to screams of delight from the FAGs and Parin.

A marked improvement has been made in his verbal’s on the pitch. Whether he is motivating, or telling his fellow players when and where to track their men, he has been a lot more talkative this time around and he's never afraid to ask questions, take advice on board and consider what is being asked of him. Nobody in the league is Zinedine Zidane, but Pasty is the quickest to admit he's not even Kevin Kilbane.

His passing power and accuracy have also been a major plus point this term. Whilst he has become stronger in the tackle, as well as in the air, these are the biggest areas he needs to improve in order for him to "get a riggle on" next season. If he played with less fear when tracking his man it could make all the difference.

As you may have read at number 15 on this list, Pasty will always offer moments of comedy too, since his voicemails and quotes are legendary. From: "get a riggle on, mate", to: "He's a physio, so I think he knows when he's hurt" and, of course: "I got called fat Pasty cunt, twice." A valuable squad member who as you can see, will offer moments of joy if nothing else.

Probably the worst social secretary of all time.
